He sat to my left side
He did, my friend
At a poker table,
He buried his eyes
'Neath the visor
Of his baseball cap
causing his eyes to lurk
In the shadow of his face
I was ahead
With piles of winning chips
The stares
He aimed in my direction
Which I caught
Were like daggers of hate
As he murmured
deep hollow songs
To himself
Of treachery and sincereness
I would say
I was holding my own
As his friend
One he would soon
Like to disown.
He bet heavy
On four of a kind
I was holding all spades
From the "ten to the ace"
Yes blest
With a royal flush
he went all in
I was the only player
To bet against him.
He showed his cards
I showed mine
He stormed out upright
Was the last time I saw him
Since that night.
A friend
Turned out to be a sore loser
loser of a soul
A life long friendship
Ended that unluck night
Unlucky for him
Now he is lost
In the twilight of a dream
He never woked from
The gamblers dream
Where Kenny Rogers said
A gambler braeks even.
Once again William, your pen has created an interesting tale...it is an area I know nothing about...guess I don't have the heart of a gambler...I want a return on my money...great write friend..
Peace and love, Carole
I never gambled, at least not in poker or cards of any type...I use the one arm bandits every now and again, but no more than once a year as I have had enough vices and addictions in my life, I don't need another! ED
Excellent story/poem William. Funny how all the things parents warn us of as bad, turn out to be right.;-) lust, drink, gambling, all ways to lose friends and influence no one;-) Sad that some are such poor losers!
Peace and love, Carole
