In the darkness
My heart rate
Overpowers my senses
Shattering, the eminent silence
Existing
I feel as lonely
As A soldier on guard duty
Christmas Morning
I feel downer, then an uncertain
Shadow on the wall
Demons slink about
From craves to craves
I reach for a thought
In the pitch of the night
So I may scribe
What's in my mind.
Instead
I feel the ivory handle
Then the cold stainless steel
Of a straight razor's edge
Images of my throat
Immediately enter my mind
My hands retract
As if I had touched
An open flame
I fell to my knees
Begging my lord to please
Erase that vision from me
My hands blindly search
The floor about me
I felt a hangman's noose
I suddenly let it loose.
The sky is getting lighter
Towards the horizon's east
As the deep blue
Begins to fade away
I feel myself awakening
With a prayer I recite
I will soon be there
As unseen hands
Grasp my throat
Strangling my life away.
Pretty darned scary, William, and also frustrating as you attempt to create a solution for one circumstance and another, more frightening than the last, finds its way into your dream. Rather defeating and invalidating...how I hate that feeling when it finds its way into my dreams. Excellent, strong poetry.
Take care,
Sherry
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
A very scary one for sure!!

I hope you don't have another like it, the dream alone can put you under! Excellent write!
