I saw a Vase
On a mantle
The remains of yellow Roses
Dwelled within
Now dried, dead, decayed
To brittle brown.
I've search for my face
On the reflection of the Vase
It, I could not see
Must have been lost
Somewhere along the line
Of a time
Forgotten by the Face
Within the Vase
Who's reflection
Now seems out of place.
I asked the Roses
Where's my face
The one,
Once reFlecting from the vase
The Roses could not answer
They were dried, brittle and brown
They were dead all around.
I no longer peek
From around that flower Vase
It's reflection
No longer holds within, my face.
This is deep and full of bittersweet feelings, a regret for growing older, maybe? Very good -- poignant, meaningful. Thank you for telling me about it William.
Love,
CJ
William what a deeply touching poem you have written here. It speaks volumes to encroaching age that forces us to face our mortality. Superbly done my friend!
Your poem reminds me of my own poem with the same title -
The reason why the Yellow Rose dried and died is that it needs nourishment. One cannot just put a yellow rose into the vase and assume the vase to take care of it; on the other hand, one should never put a rose into a vase and admire only the rose how it blooms. Both the vase and the rose are equally important in values to treasure and be admired.
Anyway...that is just my poem "The Vase" is talking about. You can read my poem "The Vase" in the following link, and you'll see that the vase holds equal importance as the rose:
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
