I call them Nightingales
Within my mind
They wear the White Of Angels
Me, I am just a fallen soldier
Not Of battle
But of time, age and longevity
I've suffered from bone fractures
That neede mending
Wounds and scars
To be tended
They are like Angels
Healing all my wrongs
Bones, wounds, scars
Peace of mind.
They possess a soft touch
Saintly soothing words
Eyes that care
They yield the tenderness
Of their Angelic souls
I'll Not
Disrespect, their given names
For surly they have earned them
Names that sounds like songs
JP, Patrice, Nancy And Nancy
Or what else they fancy
In my prayers
I'll include them
May they continue healing
With their love caring
Touch of Angels.

William, what a beautiful way to deliver a heart of gratitude! My Step-Father was an MD for 50 years, and he always said that the nurses did all the work, but never got their due...he sure would have loved you!

They are indeed the sisters of mercy, William. They somehow find the ability to care with their hearts and souls, no matter how many patients and no matter how overworked they are. You should send this poem to your local society for nurses or to the nurse's registry. I am certain they would be humbled by your thoughtful words.
