Here I am, 64 years of age
Today while soul searching
Tear just fell from my eyes
Upon the parchment
I’m Scribing on
I came to a conclusion
After several minutes
Of re- thinking my situation
I came face to face
With a harsh reality.

I never said, “I love you”
To my loving Mother
I did loved Her
With all my heart
But I never held Her
In my arms
Never embraced Her
Not even in death.

I never took a moment
To hold and feel Her hard working
Hands
Nor to place a gentle kiss upon them
In appreciation for all
She had done for me
Throughout life.

Never did I whisper an
I love you
Thought I loved Her
with all my heart.

The only hug I remember
Was one with tears
She cried
When I returned home
In uniform
Before that, I had never
Held Her tenderly in my arms.

My memories of Her
I’ve treasured
Within my heart and soul
But I never said
"I love You," to my Mom.

She knew, a mother knows those things. It could have been the way you looked at her or just you presence, an atmosphere. She knew you loved her. Love is powerful enough to allow us to understand that love can be shown even in silence. Example of this, a mother and her baby who can't speak...she knows her baby loves her.

Lots of love to you,
Pier

I have discovered through the years that many of our families were not raised to say the words "I love you" it was expressed in other ways. Sometimes a friendly pat on the back, a smile, or it was just understood through caring, providing, and respect...but often left unsaid. Your mother knew your love as did you hers...it was just one of those unspoken understandings....enjoyed this tender and giving write my friend, you've touched my heart with this one dear friend!

William dear you should know that even those things which may go an eternity unsaid still be known! How? The wind that blows one to another caressing a wound, tickling the nose, kissing seemingly the lips, rustling the hair and so on. Your mother knows William of that I am sure!!!!
Thank you for sharing a chunk of yourself in this reflective, emotive from your heart and mind piece!

D'Artagnan,

I share the sadness of your loss...and I am sorry for your pain.

Isn't it amazing how love can be in us...yet, never express itself physically?

Please consider this: Your love was imprinted on your mother's heart. In your service, it was reflected by your love of God & Country. In your vocation, it was reflected by your love and respect of Law & Order, rightful living. In your poetry, it is reflected by your love of life.

SOMEONE taught you well:) so how can your beloved mother...NOT know?

God bless your beautiful and aching heart D'Artagnan.
Love&Hugs&Prayers,
Rhonda

Tears.....I think you are not the only one my friend!!

Warm hugs of love from afar to make it better okay..I told my daddy that I loved him before he died...but did not have the chance to say it to my mom...because we were not the bestest friends at that moment!!

Oh so sad William, but I bet you'd be surprised at how many can say the same thing. Far too often we take our parents for granted. However you loved her, and I'm sure she got that message loud and clear;-)!

I agree with the other reviewers here, she always knew you loved her William. It' funny, my mom never told me she loved me, until a few days before she passed away. But I always knew she did, no doubt whatsoever. She knew you loved her William, although you still regret not actually saying the words.
Hugs, Laura

William, she knew, dear poet, she knew. She looks down with pride, knowing exactly what is in your heart, even now. This poem is lovely and is filled with all the love a son could have for his mother. BRAVO, my friend.

When love is reciprocal...words aren't needed.
You said I-love-you many times, in a myriad of little things from the quotidian of every day's life.
The poem is just a white rose to honor her, the other? she knows.

Susan & Susan are right on target; Mothers know these things. Your actions most likely spoke volumes, poet.

The one special quality of mothers is they know more than we think they do. She knew you loved her. She still does and don't think for a minute she didn't.

Susan
