Filtered through, then?
Lets look back
On the discovery, of “the smile”
Two Neanderthal hunters
One an elder
More experienced, in the art
Of the hunt
The Other
A young brave, on his first hunt.
Together
They leave on a journey
With well honed spears
And their eagerness
For the young brave's
First kill
Into the third day
of the hunt
They encountered
A snow storm, along the way.
Snow falling, fast and furious
Blinding and unable
To search for land marks
They came upon, a natural dent
On a hill's dryer side
Fearing hypothermia
They decided, to wait out the storm
The young brave's pelt
Outer garment
Was soaked through
And he was barely standing
The elder hunter
Before leaving, for the hunt
Had lightly greased, his pelt cape
Water proofing it.
The elder laid, on the dry ground
the young brave, fearing freezing
After the elder, fell asleep
Curled up in front of his companion
And under his dry pelt
In a fetal position, naked
Seeking body heat
He finally drifted, into a peaceful sleep
As his body drew heat
The warm rays, of a beautiful sunrise
Caress the hunter's faces
As the morning warmed up
Promising a great, clear spring day
Both hunters woke
To the warmness, on their faces
both discovering, "The Smile"
On each other's faces.
Beautifully written and expressed they cuttle to keep
Warm and woke up and discover a Smile on each other's face

So that's where the smile comes from. Didn't know. I'm glad to have such a learned presence in the Den. One who continually makes me smile. Been naked to keep warm, woke up to a wonderful smile.
William, it's better to be smiling than to be lying stiff and expressionless. This is such a great writing...you've captured a story here, keeping this reader in a trance until the end. You've certainly been given a great gift to write and relate a story.

Yeah, Ed for a minute there I thought William's poem was interupted by that smelly Neanderthal Elder at Cave Creek!
But~ back to your poem...
I actually know this to be true, in the very cold weather when camping out, it is much better to get naked and allow your body heat to flow around the sleeping bag. It will keep you much warmer!
Poor fellow...better than dying, I guess! LOL!

Hmmm I wonder if both of them spent the rest of their lives wondering about their sexuality???? Curious as to how they could both have been so happy sharing body heat with someone of their same gender? This is great William, and though quite innocent, you can bet if anyone else had see them, the gossip amongst the tribesmen would have been flying. LOL!
