.......To all The Vets and Troops
still in the fronts.......

The one I left behind

William
~*~
You were the little girl
I used to play with
Protecting you along the way
Growing up, in our home town
Never did I let you down.

How beautiful you looked
On our prom night
You shone
Like the northern starlight.

A war escaped from the abyss
You, my only love
Behind I had to Leave
I heard and volunteered
To answer the bugle call.

Time stood still
Nothing accomplished
Our troops overran
The war ends without a pact
We were jeered
Upon our return, by those
We left to protect
In a war that made no sense.

Amber
~*~
I was only seventeen
a child, but a woman in love.
I loved you from the very first moment
I laid my eyes on you.

You, with that curly hair,
that smile, and those rosy lips.
You were my true love,
My best friend, my lover.
I will never forget
the first time we made love,
It was after the prom
in the back seat of your 63 Chevy.

I cried the day you left.
I buried my face in my pillow,
and vowed I would not ever forget you.
I kept your picture by my light
Your eyes watched over me that night
and your spirit was protecting me from fright.

I prayed every evening
that the angels up in heaven
would stand guard over you
during that God, awful war.
When I heard your voice on the phone
My heart skipped two beats,
we only had 10 minutes to talk
and it seemed as though
time was suspended in air.

I heard you crying as we were getting off,
and my heart just went out to you.
That was the last time I heard from you.
I have often wondered how you are.
Now, my first love, I shall return to you
and you shall return to me!

Reminds me of ...

This happened to soooooo many. A beautiful tribute to a first love, those who went to war, and the sadness that this evokes for all who were effected by it.

God bless you both. Kathy

Beautifully penned memorial, William and Amber, very emotional: many face this very thing. Well done.

This is the only goodbye that tastes sweet...
Penned like the poest where once there, and their hearts don't let forget that bitter-sweet moment.
Very well done.
Georg
