Lost in that lost highway

Once again

I found myself traveling

On that lost highway

Of unconscious desires and dreams

Perhaps looking for my soul.

On that road

Through green mountainous havens.

At a distance I see

The bellowing black smoke

Leaving a huge plume

Softly sailing without rhythm

In the clear blue sky.

Away from the hell & brimstone

Of the abyss

It originated from.

I wondered

If the smoke was beckoning me

For I don’t feel the age

I am supposed to be

I don’t see myself as old

As I be

Only the pain and feelings

I feel are real

The rest I discover

When I see my reflection

In a mirror

Or see a childhood friend

Do I see myself, within them.

Than I know that time

Has caught up to me

And it’s not letting go

Sort of holding me captive

For the Reaper who is

Waiting patiently

For his pound of flesh.

Beautiful description passing of era but I
Personally don't feel my age or act my age
But as your poem says

Only the pain and feelings

I feel are real

its the bone pain that reminds us of age
You are only as young as you feel William

Stunning visuals Brilliant write!!

None of us feel our age William until we try to do the things we did twenty years ago. My grand daughter had me out with the hoola hoop and skipping yesterday, I soon realized I am not as young as I use to be but found I could still teach them. I believe it may be my new exercise, lol. Maybe they will keep me young or be the cause of my death. great write. You are only as old as you chose to be.

William,

You've got a lot of living left to do. I hope. Don't give up: fight with every fibre of your being. An excellent, intense, emotional write of introspection, very well penned.

(((((HUGS)))) and love, Karla.

This one seems to be inspired by Dante, traveling at a time where he felt lost (midlife crisis!) to discover Life after death.
A pound of flesh for one's freedom, a ransom that sounds terrifying and reminds me of the Merchant of Venice.

Always in awe of your work...you sort of stole my thoughts here "For I don’t feel the age

I am supposed to be

I don’t see myself as old

As I be"

I never feel as old as I am, I feel younger. This is a very thought provoking and intense write. Awesome Job!!!
