The day is over the late news

Has been watched

We secure the house

All unnecessary lights

Are turned off

The end of the day

Is at hand.

I stare

Deep into the loveliness

Of her beautiful brown eyes

I gently kiss her lips

Bidding her goodnight

As we walk to the bedroom

Where once upon a time

I carried her

With romantic thoughts

In mind.

Slowly we sit on the bed

With cracking bones

Moaning and groaning

With accumulated pain

From achy bones, popping knees

And growing age.

An ouch here, an ouch there

As we attempt to get comfortable

I embrace her

From the rear seeking warmth

Still ouching

Whispering “I love you” dear

As I struggle to kiss her Goodnight.

On her lovely ears.

Sweet. Love is eternal, no matter that the body ages, love is always the sweetest end to each day. To have someone to share life's good and bad times, is a blessing indeed. Thanks, William!

Do I ever relate!! To keep loving -- nay, love more -- when Time and Fate have pummeled and mauled, and worse is around the corner, is the proof in the pudding! Bonus is, you can take turns complaining to someone who actually listens. (Well, most of the time;).)
Bigger bonus: 'someone' sees y o u, not a collection of bumps and
bruises. Thank you for sharing this, William. Love and luck to you both, Phyllis

When you are talking about mature love, the operable word is love.
And spooning is one of the greatest ways to stay warm.
Loved this write.

Just because there's white hair on top doesn't mean that old furnace isn't workin...throw the electric blanket on and kiss her the way she wants to be kissed. The pain will soon go away. Great write that many of us can relate to. Love, Bonnie

William, Love holds the cement that binds you together for eternity. Growing older has it's benefits, companionship is a blessing at this time. Knowing you have that special person right by your side, makes leaving our world that much easier and content.
Feel blessed because you are.
Sweet poem,
Peace, love, and light,
