The obscene and the dying ~~*~~ The chairman of the Board Stood up As he banged on his crystal wine glass attracting The attention of his guest To announce an obscenity One of his CEO Is to be awarded a raise. Congratulations He begins To our beloved Brad (his son-in-law) For his recent promotion To senior CEO And the raise Of 10 million dollars He so earnestly deserves Looking towards Brad He apologizes He can only award him 10% by law. Of cause Brad knew Before hand of this surprise Dinner honoring him He had started construction On a 50 horse stable At his ten thousand acre ranch Also purchasing An expensive diamond ring For his beautiful trophy wife Buffy Sitting loyally by his side She opened the Ring box Smiled politely thanking him Hope he isn’t thinking About any appreciation From me tonight I’ll be having a head ache She thought As she made plans to sneak out To she her kept stud Emilio A hard working Homicide Detective Of the New York city Police Department’s Elite Unit. Several thousand miles away Somewhere in North Africa A once upon a time Beautiful Nubian princess Lies atop a worn dusty blanket Dying of starvation Cradling her new born Sighing her last breath Glazed eyes Staring into the infinity Of hope As the tear of death Slowly made its way down The side of her still creamy soft Gentle face Her starving skeletal infant child Still desperately Suckles upon his mother’s Dry tit. As those in charge of the refugee camp Loaded their personal Cars With the care packages Meant for the starving needy Rushing towards the black market Of greedy war lords. The rich elite get richer The starving poor die The strong and war lords Of the Apocalypse Survive. By: William Bonilla 01/10/09

This makes me think of the disgust I felt when I saw on the news today that Fergie's wedding veil was covered in millions of dollars worth of diamonds. People are starving and few care. Great poem!
