Upon her absence
I dread the fact
That a sunset
Is approaching
The evening is beginning
I already feel an ache
Stirring within my heart
That lonely feeling
Is whispering to my conscience
Threatening a cold sleepless night.
With me not wanting
To see lurking shadows
On my walls
In my darken lonely room
Thoughts continue to assault
My senses
As I sit at my
Not too cozy nook at the moment
To supper alone
Just me and the silence
That surrounds me.
I miss her so much
I can’t help
But think of her loveliness
As I taste each spoon full
Of a delicious homemade soup
She made for me
Before she left,
Supper is finished
I cross myself
Thanking God for the gifts
Nourishing my body
I placed the dishes in the sink
Lying to myself
“I’ll wash them later”.
I watched a bit of TV
The only company
I have for the evening
Not really interested
For I an unable
To get her out of my mind
Oh, how I wish
She was here with me
Within the warmth
Of my embrace.
I feel myself drifting
Into a gentle sleep
A nod of my head
Woke me
Confused, webs of sleep
I rub away from my eyes
As I slowly secure
The windows and doors
I lumber towards my bedroom
I really don’t want to go there.
The Doorbell rings
Startled I open the door
Without peering through
The eye into darkness
My Beautiful graying Raven
Is standing tall at my entrance
Apologizing
For the canasta game night
Running a bit late
I smiled, I kissed her softly
And continued to our bedroom
I’ll be seeing no shadows
Lurking on my walls tonight
I fell asleep
As soon as my head
Hit the pillow
With a smile.

You paint the perfect picture of loneliness right up till the end, when it is washed away. I know this feeling well. Hugs,
