Ode to Lead belly

~*~

I would like to sing

Good night Irene,

Irene Good Night

I’ll see you

In my dreams

But that’s another man’s

Fantasy

Who wore a ball and chain

Striped black & white

Work clothes

As he sang

His remembered  troubles

While breaking rocks away

To forget the plight

Of a forgotten life

After taking one

For the love

Of a one night stand.

~*~

He Later dreamt of better times

When he sang to her

Of meeting

Within his wanting dreams

At a distance he hears

The whistle

Of the midnight special

He dreams of riding

To freedom one day

Will the Midnight special

Make his ever loving

Dream come true ?

~*~

"...at a distance he hears the whistle of the midnight special..." perhaps his dreams are coming with it or are they going away? keep on sleeping, wake moments only come with sorrows...

Georg
