Why Am I Not?

Why am I not

~*~

 

I woke up not

I’ll breathe not

I’ll see

The yesterdays not

Embrace you not

Taste your lips not

Feel love in my heart not

Think of you not

Hear your words

Of sorrow not

Nor those wails

Of mourners not

I need not wonder

Who will pay to me

Their respect

Nor hear over me

Their incoherent words

Between their mourning

And last farewells

For I no longer

Be not.

“She loves me… She loves me not.” Like the proverbial daisy, your poem has two sides and the one it is portraying is “not” the not.
