Revisit the oracle of poets
~~~~~*~~~~~


Dusk was shrouding in
Towards the oracle
Where poets once sat
Forming a circle
Taking turns reciting
Poetry.

From a distance
The silence was deftening
As the evening darkness
Crept in like a misty
Fog on a chill night.

Voices could be heard
Only within the minds
Of those daring
To trespass
Where great poet's
Words send wisdom
Into the mist of the evening.

Odes verses and sonnets
Fill the night with words
Created in the valued
Memory bank
Of true poetic masters.

One cried out loud
In the silence that surrounds
Let not others
hold back your tongues
Nor the words exiting
Your minds.

I'm not sure where that was, but I certainly hope that tradition has been revived and from time to time poets sit in those seats and recite the one another once again. Today it's more likely that there will be a "poetry slam" where rappers and other spoken artists can peddle their wares. Not unlike the days of old, but with a decidedly different twist.
