The inconsiderate actions of few will put the Human Race on the decision edge: We will say "No" to the plutocratic leaders or kneel down to their pleasure.
When I was growing up the world was going to freeze. Today, we absolutely destroy natural areas, pollute, contaminate , and treat animals poorly. Common sense will tell you that. I don't think mercury lightbulbs and massive batteries are the genius solutions we are looking for. If "regulation money" and propaganda would get out of the way , our American scientists , and yes, humanitarians could probably get something real done.just my two cents worth.
I remember when they said there was a hole in the Ozone layer around the poles. that evidently fixed itself because we didn't really do anything about it. Yes, the U.S. along with other nations did cut back on carbon emissions. However developing nations and some others (China) don't care about the whole affair only money made from cheap labor and few if any regulations.
I do believe in cycles of climate. For example the mini-ice age of the 1700's.
In the end we shall see when New York is under three feet of water and we all wonder why....Maybe to late?
A recent poll shows that 49% of Americans, along with your supporters below, believe like you do. This is not the case in the rest of the world where science education is more valued.
I have a science background and first observed the problem in 1968 when I saw that the Athabasca glacier had retreated a half-mile from its original position at the foot of a Canadian hotel for easy viewing. Even then, people there were very concerned about why it was happening so fast when the previous glacial cycles were much slower, taking hundreds of years.
I also obtained a proceeding from a conference in Puerto Rico where many scientists were studying many aspects of the problem in 1975. The problem is not a political one, and understanding the general lack of scientific understanding that most Americans have, it's easier to blame the problem on the media or politics rather than gain a serious understanding.
Corporations are raping the planet for easy money. They have been for very long time and have always left their mess for government to clean up. This is one case where the mess may put us all in jeopardy. You are not a criminal, but it is certainly criminal for the corporations causing the problem not to recognize it, and leave it for future generations to deal with.
I've been watching many reality shows from the Arctic, particularly Alaska. The people there are saying they have never seen weather like this and much of their livelihood is being greatly affected. No one is talking global warming, but they are very concerned that their way of life will disappear.
Fort McMurray in northern Alberta is the site of a huge tar sands operation requiring tremendous amounts of energy just to get oil from the sands. It is a boomtown with about 80,000 residents benefiting from the boom. Last week, the entire town burned and a huge swath of forest around it. There are extremely warm and dry conditions in much of the Arctic and the permafrost is disappearing. Last year, Alaska saw more forest fires than ever before.
Bury your head in the sand if you like and spout phrases like "maggot mouths," but that will not solve the problem. Only positive action on the part of all of us will do that. I started long ago by being as conservative as possible with my utility use and have been paying for wind power ever since I could pay for it at a higher price than from a dirty coal-fired power plant.
all are in the know that it is a profanation, but big business (one hundred billion's check issued last year) should run under the direction of the world's leaders. Do you know any other practice when big money talks? . . Tell me if any; what's more, the scientists speak of the opposing trend in the coming future. Cooling. The budget will be doubled, for sure. I'd gladly be your cellmate! Talk about a "heat wave"!! LOL!! Seriously, I remember my father telling me about the seasons he experienced in his life. 'Not too different than now, he spoke of the cycles repeating themselves. Coming from the land of ice and snow, The U.S. seemed like paradise to him. No complaints!
