The Stranger At Hand
~~~~~*~~~~~
He woke
To a beautiful
Warm breezy spring day
Clearer skies
He has never seen.
Lately
He’s been feeling pains
Strange to his body
All seemed
The making of his
Dreadful day
Marking the beginning
Of his life
As he knows so well.
So he takes matters
At hand
And begins constructing
That herbal garden
She always dreamed of.
Pick in hand
Spade by his side
Loosening the soil away
A man appears by his side
Helping him by and by.
Always been one
To never take kindly
To strangers
Yet this person by his side
He feared not
Though he couldn’t see
His face.
He wore a floppy straw hat
Face lost in the shadows
of his hat
Hadn’t spoken yet
Offering the stranger
A glass of ice cold water.
The benign intruder
Wiped the sweat from his brawl
With the sleeve
Of his denim jacket
Removing his hat
So the gentle breeze
Refresh is head.
Shoulder length Golden hair
Flopped down, at last
He could see the stranger’s face
Asking him his name
I have none he replied
But I will respond
To whatever name
You’ll anoint me with.
The stranger spoke
Clear and simple
With wisdom
On every chosen word
He saw his eyes
Blue as the peaceful seas
No hate detected
Within them
Just an expression
As if they knew
Each other all their lives.
The old man bend down
To pick up the spade
To continued his labors
Upon searching
For loose dirt to shovel
He was at awe
Behold his garden
Was completed
To every specification
His wife ever dreamed
The stranger gone
Nowhere in sight.
He knew at that very moment
The stranger would return
On the day
He’ll be laid to rest
‘neath the green sod
Of his final
Resting hallowed ground
To be escorted
By the stranger
With no name
To his final destination.
WONDERFUL WORK. THE 'WOULD BE' GARDENER WAS BLESSED WITH A HEAVENLY PRESENCE THAT GAVE HIM A HAND NOW AND WOULD GIVE HIM 'A HAND' WHEN HE MOST NEEDED IT...IN THE END. ENJOYED, WILLIAM, AND THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATION
You have told a wonderful story. Unfortunately, serious studies by scientists excavating DNA from the period and place of Christ, a Jew, have determined that he was dark skinned, with dark brown hair, and brown eyes, looking similar to most Palestinians of this day. The church images of Christ as a northern European with blue eyes and long blonde hair has been around since Roman times when artists always favored lighter skinned people over those with darker skin. Something that Christ did not care about, but so many, to this day, still hold true.
a stranger at hand means that your way of life is right to get what you need at the time and in portion you truly need. In the sense, it is exactly what in the east is known as 'inaction,' which in a proper for a westerner's ear language sounds like 'doing with no further ado.' A nicely rendered story. Cheers, alex
A charming narrative about what might be, and all at the guidance of a "stranger". After living many years abroad in strange and stranger lands, I have come to appreciate the value of kind strangers who have helped me over the years. John
I guess if you believe strong enough you will "see" that vision.
Well, this lovely tale tells me that we won't have to do the "end" alone. There's going to be Someone there to help us through. No doubt! I really like this!!
Love ya!
