A Love Abandon, Before Life

He was left, wrapped, in a blanket,
A note, was left near by,
Somewhere, a young mother cries,
For reasons, no one, knows why.

Precious,
As a rose bud, blooming in June,
Left alone,
As the brightest, of full moons.

In a hospital, fighting for life,
God's greatest gift, must survive,
As he searches, for the warmth,
A mother denied.

If only, I knew his name,
And was able, to suffer his pain,
I would, let him sleep, gently silent,
As I cry away, his obvious chains.

Tears, oh Tears,
Streaming down, my eyes,
Save some, for my tomorrow,
So I may cry, away his sorrows.

William,

The poem is beautiful with much feeling. I'm glad that, being a policeman, you yet have much compassion. So many people are hardened by seeing and/or knowing too much.

I would add 'ed' to abandon in your title as the mother already did the deed but the poem is perfect :)! I hope the infant survived. Did he?

This peom definately made me tear up and also made me angry at the way someone could leave such a defenless life. I hope he is safe and taken care of now.

Disgusting - if only more people knew that there is legislation now that will protect "mothers" from criminal charges for abandoning their babes at hospital doors! Each time I hear this story, I wish that they had placed the child in my hands - so many desperately want to nurture , there is NO excuse for this! Thank you for writing on behalf of these defenseless innocents!

There is absolutely too many babies left in abandonment these days. Thank you for your poem and for keeping this truth of our modern times evident. -susan
