A Walk Down The Hall

Awaken
In the darkness of my room
unable to sleep
My Mother walked in
Looking as beautiful as ever
Behind her walked in a man
Dressed in a gray suit
Gray hair, a sad solemn
Druid looking face
I was shaken.

I asked who is he?
She replied
I don't know my son
Must be a doctor, I thought
She smiled, with sparkling eyes
Lets walk down the hall
To me, she whispered
I grabbed my robe
We exit the room
All seemed quiet
No one up or down the hall.

No doctors nor nurses rushing
We walked towards the end
something was differnt
There was no wall at the end
I could see daylight
Like it was the most beautiful
Spring day in May.

Mother walked towards
The light
I followed her, for a while
She stopped
With her lovely smile
Said
This is as far, as you can go
Why I asked?
I wish to continue
It's so beautiful there
Sorry my son, she said
You have to accompany "Him"
Pointing, towards old sour puss
In the Gray suit
Who was walking
In the opposite direction.

Your poems always feel so real. In this case it was chilling to say the least.

Oh, William.. there are goosebumps on my goosebumps.. the way you unfold this and bring us to its ending is gentle and quiet, yet the impact of realization is absolutely stunning.. I have never read of death with such sensitivity.. a beautiful piece. katy.

Well, William...this message is deep. I, too, want to see the lighted end of the hall, but through it, also! Thank you.
