Does anyone realize
How hot a heart can be?
Just touch an iron or just come near
Results?....A scalded memory
Yet the heart can be compromised
Then yield and cause a burn
And still the token perseveres
Draws back but doesn't learn
You turn away all startled
With a spirit scarred and torn
An iron would be much cooler
Than a heart whose core can burn
Where is all the logic
The one that smells of fear
The one that gives a warning?
Watch out and don't tread here
Its easier to touch an iron
Much cooler than the pain
Left from scars so infinite
That grows with ill refrain
The heart is but a white hot core
Where passions live and seethe
Its hotter than any hell
And more painful....I believe.
YES the similarity is there for sure and as Johnny Cash once stated in song "Love...is a burning thing, and it makes, a firery ring" so no denying the man in black or the master romantic my good friend Sue. Well done sweetie.
Oh so true! But not to risk being burned, what joy could be missed. Pain is the price of anything gained, it seems. At least for a person who lives life passionately. Very well written and expressed!
The heart is the center of our feelings and sentiments...and as such it burns like a wildfire...

I believe too, Susan. While you can burn yourself with that iron, if you get too close to a heart you have burned sometimes the result is on the violent side. Tread lightly would be my advice. Excellent poem for the naive.
