It is easier to speak of a masterpiece
Than to create one for yourself
It seems passe' to border illusion
If we only recollect regret
Then it's human to act negative
While Godly to be esteemed
But it's immortal to leap boundaries
That are precious in our dreams
Fear can be a teacher at times
It appears to keep us strong
It's okay to be a failure, I've learned
And it's mortal to be wrong
You can live inside the box for a day
If your focus is yours but for mine
It would prove of far more interest to me
If I painted outside the lines
To age is something that bothers us all
From infancy until our end
But I'd rather just outgrow my body, you see
Then live on as a forever friend.
Poignant piece--one of your best. You are right. In the old days, a mistake could be mortal. Today, we are rewarded monetarily for making them and live on.
Enjoyed this much, fear can keep us often times from making the wrong decision, or going to the wrong place...fear can be a great teacher...and as CJ stated it does appear to keep us strong. Super write!

Love this, much for me to think upon. ( Aw, you know I don't like to think!" "Well then, you might think about starting to." Millers Crossing).Like the Coen brothers but poetic you have a gift for placing words in ways that they acheive maximum meaning yet lay open to interpritation. Love it...

Reading these sequences of 'It is.., It seems.., etc' reminded me strongly of the Harrison song (a song I haven't thought of or heard for years until I read this reflective poem, Susan) See Yourself: 'It's easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth, It's easier to kill a fly than it is to turn it loose, It's easier to criticise somebody else, than to see yourself,It's easier to sigh than be like all the rest' etc.

(I found myself singing this line in my head to the Harrison tune)
'I'd rather just outgrow my body, you see
Then live on as a forever friend.'
In the right conditions, we can remain ageless in mind, reach academic, creative and social heights that our younger, more agile party obssesed bodies were either too indifferent, scared or unable to reach.
I am happily outgrowing my 'buttered scone and cup of tea' stage body in this way.

the key to this poem is "focus" ... we can either focus on the negativity which is really alack of creative spirit or develop a positive creative force within us ... negativity will promote demise, positivity will ensure our endurance, both in spirit and body ... aging will be a process of sustenance and growth ...
