We all have friends and if we're lucky then we have them for life. There are some of us who want more than friendship and the risk then becomes a wager terrifying for many hearts.

Poem Artwork

I need to write
I need to get it all out
Yet I'm pensive
Scared of what may really...
Dwell in my thoughts for you.

It's all buried deep
Somewhere in an abyss of respect
That private place
That place where I keep thoughts of you safe
The place where my shine is born.

I'm terrified of thinking
About you
Scared of purging what is really
There...
There where fears come often
When the friendship of a lifetime could be jeopardized
Terror that this knowledge could change you and how you feel for me.

I'm scared of losing you
That you would never return
What's best here?
The truth could expose a lifetime of dreams
For the Enigma desquised as a friend
For the love that is deeper
For the one friend who has been all my holidays
All my Valentines
For my lifetime friend.

Jackson Browne sings of us
His words speak when mine are lost.

"You're the hidden cost
In all that's lost
In everything I do."

There are no winning answers.

Fear is the engine of this realm. We are here, knowing that elsewhere we belong. Where different emotions affect different worlds. It is difficult to separate knowledge from experience, but with each instant that passes we approach dimensions far greater than the one we find ourselves trapped in right now. This life is a transient thing, but some of the feelings buried deep inside our hearts will outlive anything we encounter in this plane. There is nothing to be afraid of.

I've always felt to go with the heart...if the friendship is truly strong, then it will always be...the true heart is never wrong no matter the outcome.

What's best here?

Probably a question many have asked down through the ages in a similar situation.

You speaketh for many of us, Maiden.
And, verily. you speaketh it well.
We are of the many without assurance
in today's climate, which doesn't help.
No, not one damned bit!
Great work in this offering! - Bill

I'm sorry Susan, but when you said Jackson Browne, the line that came to mind for me was...."Looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie.".......LOL

i think the difference comes down to wanting more than friendship to needing more than friendship that the real wager becomes terrifying ...

like the tone and direction of this poem, Susan ...

This is profound pondering Susan! I know exactly the feeling, you have put it into words that show your grasp of the situation. There are certain relationships that are best left at the level of friendship that is comfortable for both since they are not all meant to progress to other levels. Knowing how the other prrson feels should give you your answer. Did they show any signs of wanting it to change in your direction? Very excellent thought provoker Sis! Take care!

Eileen

VEry open hearted write that reveals a yearning and desire that can only be relized by yes...taking a big risk and putting your heart out their on the line. The reward a special love even more special than the friendship...the worst that could happen...he may tell you he is not interested in this dream of yours and you then may start to look for a new dream, in time... no fence sitting is good

Quite a bit of worrisome thoughts perfectly penned which shows the deep feeling you have for this "Hidden Loss." The hurt and pain (hate that overused word, but sometimes nothing else works) abound within the structure of this sad, but wonderfully written cry for understanding and . . .
