MY MATCH
They met on the computer.
They’d each spent time alone.
If they really connected,
maybe then they’d try the phone.
Each had lost their spouse,
both had died of cancer.
Each had done some seeking,
neither had found the answer.
In the beginning she had lots of questions.
He had questions too.
They’d ask them of each other,
like all new couples do.
They’d ask them over the internet,
cause she was miles away.
Seemed that made it easier,
face to face he had so little to say.
She was preparing for a family wedding,
for a month would be out of state.
He wondered, could they wait that long,
to be together for that first date.
They’d both spent time in Michigan.
They’d both worked in a bank.
He asked if she played golf,
was she familiar with a shank?
He wondered if she played pool
and could she handle a cue?
Without his favorite entertainment,
whatever would they do?
She spoke of playing euchre,
since they’d both lived in the North.
He wondered if they’d share a ride
next time they went back and forth.
She asked him what’s your favorite beer
and what’s your favorite dessert?
How long ago did your wife die?
Do you ever get over the hurt?
They both grew more bold
the questions, more intense.
She asked was he a boob guy?
His answer made no pretense.
He could take or leave the boobs,
though some might think him nuts.
He guessed if he were truthful,
he looked first at really nice butts.
They spoke about their musical tastes
and of the movies they’d enjoyed,
about raising their children
and the places they’d been employed.
Did he like karaoke and
did he sing by any chance?
Had he ever been on a cruise?
Did he like to dance?
Was he a good kisser
and did he enjoy the act?
She was destined to find out,
she knew that for a fact.
He joked that being so sweet,
when it rained, he’d likely melt.
Rain melted salt too,
was the way she said she felt.
She wondered how many girl friends
he’d spent his time with
and did he have any love left over,
that he was willing to give?
His answer wasn’t exactly
what she was looking for,
but he hadn’t given his all
and felt certain he had more.
What would the women from his past
have to say to her?
Was it really over
and did they know that for sure?
Neither could believe
just how bold they had become.
Somehow, talking on the internet
was becoming so much fun.
Life isn’t so enjoyable
without someone to share.
Someone who’s your everything
and for whom you truly care.
Someone to be your comrade,
yet often so much more.
Your day and night companion,
even though you sometimes snore.
The questions keep on coming,
the answers incomplete,
yet they agree computer dating
is a wonderful way to meet.
