Worry

My family is very important to me. None of us are perfect, including yours truly, but we always come together when there is a need. Always!

WORRY 
 
I still worry about my boys,
though both are fully grown
and it’s been over twenty years
since each was on his own.
 
I still worry about their daughters,
yet to grow out of their teens,
they’re all doing well in school
and all three are my little queens.
 
The future is so unsure,
the pathways all unmarked,
it’s so easy to be led astray from
the goals on which you’ve embarked.
 
But, all my worry doesn’t change
the lives for which they’re destined,
so I’m careful with my comments,
not wanting my motives questioned.
 
We each have a life to live,
each chooses the direction they take.
Each makes their own decisions,
each makes their own mistakes.
 
I can’t live their lives for them,
I can’t fight their fight.
But, I can try to be their beacon,
constantly shining a guiding light.
 
Then, when the need is warranted,
and they request a helping hand,
I’ll always be there for them,
just like I always planned.

Worry, though real unfortunately is counter productive and unhealthy. Worry can become a self fulfilling prophesy if you let it. I worry too much myself. Patrick

Family for me too, is very important. I can relate to this whole-heartily. We can be that beacon that shines to light their way. This poem really touched me Dick. Thanks!

I love this poem, written with truth in it's words. I wish I had your wisdom in being careful with my comments. I don't seem to be able to master the art of living my life and letting them live theirs without expressing concerns. Wish I could since it would make all our lives easier. Kudos for this one...It's a keeper.

But is that not what it is all about? To be there when you are needed which is more than some can give. They are lucky indeed to have someone like you to guide them with a caring eye. Excellent work.
