She Kept Moving On

It's not always about the destination, sometimes it's the journey that makes the difference. Our travels and trials often meld together to make us who we are.

Originally written about an imaginary lady, this poem was later posted with a photo of my son’s dog. Amazingly, the poem takes on an entirely different character by simply changing the focus from that imaginary lady to a wonderful dog.

SHE KEPT MOVING ON

He could see an inner strength,
yet he knew that she’d known pain.
He sensed that she’d known passion,
she was anything but plain.

She was built strong and beautiful
then they’d broken the mold.
But, someone had left a scar,
which seemed not so very old.

He could tell that she’d been hurt,
but she hadn’t fallen for the con.
She might well have given up,
but instead she just moved on.

There was sadness in her eyes
and loneliness in her heart.
He wanted to bring her comfort,
not quite knowing where to start.

It hadn’t been an easy life,
she’d lived it on the fly,
mostly day to day,
just managing to get by.

Nor had it been real joyful,
she hadn’t known much fun.
Yet, she’d managed to survive,
somehow, she just kept moving on.

One day she moved on to him,
or maybe he made a move on her,
it really doesn’t matter,
 somehow, it happened to occur.

Suddenly her life had meaning,
she knew he was the one.
She’d finally found her place in life,
she’s no longer moving on.

Nice. Had me thinking about someone very dear to me as I read this, Richard. Your voice was just perfect for this style of writing, you teased a bit, but kept moving forward. Nice work.
