The streets are the arena
the citizens are the victims
the hoodlums are the
wild animals
The politicians are
the spectators
The president is
Julius Ceasar
Let the games begin
who will lose and who will win
The animals don't have to
be let out of their cages
They're all running wild with
all type criminal rages
The politicians don't fret
all their needs are
being met
they have armed security
the wild animals will meet
Julius Ceasar sits on his throne
while the wild animals
roam the streets of stone
Julius Ceasar and
his rich friends
rip off Rome and reap
their dividends
Julius Ceasar then
calles for a bailout
while all his rich friends
leave the bank checkout
Loaded with all the cash
they plan to stash
Poor man on the street
still gets killed and beat
while the wild animals
devour his dead meat
The spectators gather
like crooks of a feather
they all stick together
Pretending
to end the crooked spending

It could have an even wider scope because there are many interesting similarities between our modern America and Rome during the beginning of its fall from empire. Hopefully the new Julius may have learned something from history.
An excellent, spot on write: while Nero fiddles, Rome is burning ... with anger, with apathy, with calls for change. Excellent pen, GEM. God have mercy!
