First, zippers it away with a lot of buttons. And then, Velcro did away with a lot of zippers.
With the Internet, many more buttons came back. But with AI and voice control, later, mind control, buttons may disappear altogether.

Least it's not buttons on their eyes as in Gaiman's book.
Yet how true where would we be without them, possibly arrested without on trousers.
Taking a simple item and writing poetry about it is an excellent ability.
