A Little girl I use to be.
Sweet and innocent.. life was so free.
Summers in my culottes.. sunflowers loomed above.
All dreams were possible.
As long as you had love.
Wintertime and snowflakes.
Snow men we would build.
Lifesaver men and Christmas.
These are the times love tried to fulfill.
But little girls grow up.
The sunflowers seem to grow smaller.
Dreams have a way of fading.
Like the petals of a flower.
But like the girl I once was
I try my best to rise above.
I wipe my silent tears away..
and try to look towards brighter days.
I will not give up!
Strengthened by memories I store in my mind.
I turn around one day.
To discover my dream was there all the time.
I thank the heavens for sending me..
someone such as you.
You are my summers and Christmas.
You are my sunflower dream come true .
"You are my summers and Christmas.
You are my sunflower dream come true."
I love these lines, Erica, and, in a way, you've shown me that I, too, have had my most important dream come true, my husband and my two little girls...thank you.

ps, I will always remember growing up in WI, summer-green and winter-white, hey, that sounds like a good title!

This is absolutely beautiful and I like the imagery you used with the sunflowers. I use to stand under them when I was a child.

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
