Have have we done to our once-beautiful planet?

Poem Artwork

A simple life with a simple wife
I should have kept it light but now it’s too late
It all ended with a simple twist of fate
I’m suffering, but the punishment’s commensurate
Empress Menin, help me get her back
Speak to me words of wisdom
My heart right now is a lost and found
A useless trinket, a mass of contradictions
Why do we hurt the ones we love most?
Mankind sucks, paradise is lost

I’m standing in the corner, waiting for Babylon to fall
Hemingway said, ‘Ask not for whom the bell tolls’
Some Babylonian rappers tried to frustrate I and I
Accusing me of trying to surpass Haile Selassie-eye
Stop trying to confuse us with your Jedi mind tricks
Your rap’s been weighed, measured, and found plastic
You need to switch to that Alternative Rap
Your new joints sound a lot like crap

In an unfamiliar place at a forgotten time
I sit at a train station, Waiting For Godot
Other poets and playwrights are also there`
Am I them and are they me?
And are we links in a never-ending chain
Of writers, stretching into infinity?
The Human Condition is suffering, we all agree,
From environmental, social and mental pollution

You need to break out of your mental prison
I’m the Free-man to give you your Shawshank Redemption
Help you escape from captivity, like Papillon
You have been lied to since childhood
By those who seek to control the Wealth of Nations
Aristotle said, ‘They talk like angels and act like devils’
I swear some people were spawned by demons
All the blood of saints couldn’t wash away their sins.

Nicely done - "writers stretching into infinity" - but, "He who does not read has no advantage over he who cannot read" - Mark Twain - Thank you!

You got me thinking about how the Serengeti will be carved up for the tourist trade, and become just another zoo.
