In our religion of Islam
Ramadan is a holy month
But we do some unholy actions
Ugly differences reach peak this month
We argue over when to start fasting
we argue over when to finish fasting
Moon sighting is a ritual confrontation
Million eyes stare at the golden sky
Each one wants to see it on his own
No one accepts what the other had seen
Some of them see a moon that never was
Others scare it with their watchful eyes
They search it with guns hanging their shoulders
They make it hide behind a cloud
Or runaway only to surface in another location
And so they miss their prime object
Oh my people oh brothers and sisters
Ramadan is supposed to forge unity
Never was it intended to divide
Don't blame the moon. Blame yourselves

i love that line, 'don't blame the moon', although you mean it quite literally, it can stand for so many other things. a tight write, poet!

Wonderfully expressed!!! It is a shame that mortal desires overshadow the good intentions of the Divine. This is why I have no love of "organized" religion, and instead follow those paths set to me by more natural callings.

There are so many fears and fantasies in all religions Abdi Noor.
Your wonderful poem shows part of the reason people misunderstand
each other. We have such diversity of thought, but with God
there is always hope!

Nicely expressed, Abdi-Noor. Thoughtful and full of compassion. Religions in general tend to "blame the moon", when it is their teachings and practices that mislead gulliable people (educated or otherwise).

These Black and Blue Red Zone Days by Aberjhani

Just as life during the pandemic was color-coded with different hues representing different levels of danger, life in its aftermath has become shaded in similar ways. As a self-styled “Seeker of Beauty with Beauty,” (borrowing from a quote by W.E.B.
