Today I saw the picture of a child wandering in the streets of Nairobi after her parents divorced. her glassy eyes and appealing face nearly broke my heart. I couldn't say anything more than grabbing my pen to jot down these few lines

Divorce is the work of devil
It wrecks havoc upon life
It leaves pain in the soul
It produces disturbed minds
Children become street roamers
A hole gets dug in their hearts
Unless it is absolutely necessary
Don't take the option of divorce
Listen to your God please
Listen to Allah, please
Listen not to the devil.

Divorce is hard on all parts, i'm speaking from expirience.
But in my case it was not an obtion, it was a must!

Abdi-Noor, I've been away for only a month and yet as I read this I am struck with how much I have needed the wisdom you bring to this place. Thank you for the courage to pick up the pen and write what must be said. I believe even when it becomes the only option left, divorce is always the result of sin (i.e. the work of the devil). Oh that we might all be more aware of the spiritual battle for our hearts and minds - and of the innocents who are caught in the crossfire and suffer grievously.

My dear Bro. Abdi , divorce is one of the reasons many should never marry as they sacrifice children on its' altar and children unfortunately and frequently assume blame for their dysfunctional parents.I too feel this pain for the children who become pawns in a no win game for them at a crucial time in their lives. Peace and blessings.

I agree. Divorce is hardest on the children. Their world breaks, because at that moment of time in their life, parents are their life.

Your words speak such truth, Abdi-Noor. Divorce is so hard on children and also on the two going through the divorce. One would think that there could be a way of finding a middle ground more often than we do, but divorce is often the simplest way to deal with a love gone bad. In cases of abuse, alcoholism or drug abuse, I think it is always justified, and a good idea to get the children out of that environment, but for simply becoming bored with a spouse, it is a very wrong decision. Excellent sentiments penned here.
Take care,
Sherry

Truthful heartfelt words, my friend! It is sad but sometimes under certain circumstances divorce is a necessity for the sake of all concerned, but I agree with Eileen it should not be taken lightly only in extreme cases when all else fails and then both parents should behave like adults and put the childrens needs first! Excellent piece.

Even though I divorced a because of mental and physical abuse, of both me and my children, I agree with you. divorce should be the last option. I waited until my boys were out of high school. I should have done it sooner, we all have many scars. But it should not be taken lightly, as it is today. Excellent poem Abdi-Noor!

Love,
Eileen
