Somali civil society are coming together much closer than ever to have a common front towards the restoration of a peaceful and democratically sovereign nation. I support this move as I am an active part of the movement.

In many countries of the Third world
We have dictatorships of the worst kind
They came to power in a military coup
They rule their poor nations at gunpoint
They repress and frustrate their people

They see writers and poets as a threat
They think journalista a thorn in the neck
They are hunted down day in and day out
Peace activists themselves are not spared
Freedom of Expression is a human right
Everybody should be able to exercise it

In this crazy world of ours
There are two types of leaders
One is anarchic. The other democratic
One weilds the gun to impose fear
The other asks people to respect the law
Good and bad leaders come from the people
Both are products of the people they rule

Where you see a bad leader
you see illitrate populations
You see poverty and disease
You see persistent donations
You see permanent dependency
You see chaos and conflict
You see terror and strife

If we should have a good leader
We should educate our people
We should make them civilized
We should teach them their rights
We should not eye a post at this time
There is a long way to go to free Somalia
Somali Civil Society must plant a tree
A fruit tree our next generation can eat from
And to sit under its shade to take rest
Let's Plant the Tree of Freedom
Le's plant it with the spirit of nationalism
Le's not irrigate it with the waters tribalism
