A rural woman in Africa wants to cook porridge for her husband before he wakes up. But the fire is not cooperating with her. So she kneels down naked before the fire and sings for it to save her from the fist strike that would possibly land on her face and chest. If Kowkow wakes up with food not ready on the floor of the mud-thatched hut she will be in great trouble. I just want to expose the feeling of that African woman and share the pain with you. Thanks

OH Fire
King of all fires
Am I not the queen?
Why can't you warm up?
Why can't you smoke up?
Why can you flame up?
Why are you so silent?

Oh Fire
It is kind of cold in this hut
It is kind of dim in this hut
Can you give warmth please?
Can you mollify my heart?

Kowkow is about to wake up
He is stretching himself up
He is making rounds on the bed
His snores are getting fainter
They are dying out in the dark
They are vanishing without a trace

OH Fire
Kowkow wants potatoes and porridge
Kowkow can't go to field hungry
He can't till the land hungry
He can't tend the cattle hungry
Unless you cooperate King Fire
I can't escape from acerbic hits
Kowkow has two bitter hands
His palms breed harsh blows
I can't handle his tampers

OH Fire
Suck my breath into your belly
Suck it all into your lungs
Spare me not a single gust
Save me fire. Save me please

*tears*

No words necessary--you've covered it realistically. May men learn from your pen...and may women stand up and say, "No more!"

(((HUGS))) and love, your sister, Karla. *prayers*

Brother Abdi-Noor I cannot stop the flow of tears for the many women in bondage worldwide who call it marriage. I am thankful to be blessed with my wonderful, loving Baba. This is so tragic and ongoing for women in too many parts of the world. Whatever happened to love which is not controlling? Peace, love, and blessings to you and yours. Mikii

It can change. The G8 are not doing enough.

But on www.worldvision.com we all can sponsor a child.

If we think it cannot change, then we are being greedy and fooled.

It can can can and will..

Such vile acts can be eradicated.
Thanks for making such violence public.

The slavery of body and soul in a land that is so unforgiving. You clearly show how others must live with little hope it will ever change but change it must.

What a sad half-life she has, living as a slave to her husband and suffering his wrath if she does not please him. This kind of treatment dips below what should be basic human rights and should not be permitted by any government. I understand that she is in a terrible position too, for without a husband, even an evil, controling one, she would not be able to survive. Powerful poem, Abdi-Noor.
Take care,
Sherry

A truly sad tale, Abdi-Noor, and I truly hope Fire compassionately helps many of these women in a similar predicament.

Yes, this kind of thing is still true in the interiors of India too where women are subjugated beyond belief. I am glad that you are able to bring this to the fore and share it with all of us. If only we could do something to change the plight of the supressed in your country and mine. You feel deeply, Abdi. - shoma

Very intersting Abdi Noor. We forget that there are still places where a woman has to make a fire to cook breakfast for her mate.
Thanks for sharing!

Eileen
