Nasra Mohamed, a Somali writer in Virginia has sent me this poem after reading my work at the authorsden. I am proud of having a sister like Nasra who appreciates the work of her fellow Somalis and other writers in the world. Nasra was particularly impressed by my poem "Deeqa" which I dedicated to a young Somali girl who was flown to Austria with the assistance of Weris the Somali Model after she was raped by four men in the central regions of Somalia. In her e-mail to me Nasra wrote:
"If I could I would dedicate you a great monument....just like Mohamed Somali or Hawo Tako. Great job....you've earned it!
It was very nice to see a brother writing such a beautiful poem about a little girl. I wish we have a number of people who just think like you, I think we could have a better world out there in our community.
I really don't know anything about Deeqa. Reading your article & your poem was the first time I heard that story. But with this technology these days, I will see what I can do. Perhaps I may even be lucky and keep in touch with our other sister Weris in Austria"
These song lyrics and art are tales, tides and twinkling lights - tunes telling stories of warmth and sun, city and sand, paths that lead, and the coins we can keep in the Karma Bank. Spirit's been bypassed for sorrow, dreaming of a better tomorrow .
