Female Genital Mutilation FGM is inflicted with millions of girls across Africa and Somalia is among the worst countries that deny their daughters the right to be total women. This is a gross violation to women's rights.
I was a duty teacher in supervision
I heard screams in the girl's toilet
I didn't know what was going on there
Until the green door was flung open
A school girl appeared upon the scene
She was holding back tears of pain
Right after she vacated the facility
I came to know why she was screaming
In Somalia girls undergo circumcision
Their genitals are cut and infibulated
A small opening is left for them to urinate
She can't have her periods with ease
They call this act a rite of passage
But surely it is an act of barbarism
The girl will remain impaired permanently
To her sex is pain rather than a relief
Female genital mutilation is a crime
It has no place in the modern world
It is unislamic and rather primitive
I dont know why we still practice it
When the ghosts of horror beat drums
The devils of pain start dancing
But we should act as angels of mercy
We should fight to stop FGM by all means
Count me on your side. This barbaric practice must end. Is this practice to benefit the girl or the man who made the rule to do this in the first place? Somehow, I doubt it's in the girl's best interest....shattering, painful, brutally honest censure - thank you on behalf of young girls/women for standing with them! BRAVO!

Though many traditions of the past may have been done out of ignorance, it is no excuse to continue it today. Though many changes in modern society are lacking in morality, that does not mean nations should pernmit cruel and barbaric actions. All must be done with reason and compassion in the new and enlightened era we live in.
Dear BrotherAbdi-Noor,we know but do not voice the underlying reasons for FGM. It is barbaric. I would be very interested to see what society or culture practices MGM (male genital mutilation). Off hand I cannot think of one. Can you help me on this? I know it is not Islamist it is misogynist. Peace, love, and blessings to you and yours. Mikii
