Boat tragedy is main headline grabber in Somalia. Young people are being influenced by their peers to take a risky sea adventure

Peer pressure had put him in danger
His parents didn't know when he left
They read his name in the obituary column
Fu'ad had died in a terrible boat tragedy
He was looking for better opportunities
He wanted to escape this bleak situation
But his risk calculations were far less accurate
Few days before that fateful voyage
Fu'ad had felt striking youthful ambitions
An air of adventurism fanned his inner feelings
Before his friends had tempted him to jon them
Fu'ad was as calm and stagnant as a hushed pond
No matter how stable the waters are
They just move when moved by moving waters

peer pressures cause many juevenille tragedies ... we lost 4 young men who journyed out in a dingy in the middle of the night ... it took in water and they were lost ... they all had dared each other to give it a try ...

an important message in this well penned poem ...

The sad thing about youth is that they insist on taking risks and warnings don't help becasue they think they are invinceable. Didn't we all at one time? So sad that some die in the process. Excellent work Abdi Noor!...Eileen

Many from Africa are fleeing to Europe, some for a better life, some with a hidden agenda. I know well enough of this as we are inundated with illegal immigrants. Some die at sea when a storm breaks. Many do make it. But in Europe there is no work, so they become thieves and other things best not mentioned. Those who die are mostly at fault because they are no sailors and do not know how to guage the weather and what boat to choose. They just pay the money asked and God helps them. Victor

Life has it ups and downs - Remembering my childhood and my childrens
I would not like to live it over again, Now these things comes back in dreams to haunt me. The devil has a clever little way of making one lose his peace of mind. He pits one against another and causes a fued. It happens in every life. But we will overcome if we just keep our cool. It is all pride, greed, anger, jelousy, envy, lust that is the cause. I am now watching a tape on Islam and it has opened my understanding of these people. So the fight goes on and on and on. There is no end. Marguerite

how true...we can never take anything for granted. My heart breaks for Fu'ad's parents...I've seen that attitude of 'I'm invincible' in my own children and it is frightening!
