What I heard last night from the BBC English section was quite harrowing. September Eleven has changed the world
Those who can't ever come out openly
Those who live with concealed identity
Those who hide in the shadow of fear
Those who are victims of their own belief
Those who think their names betray them
Those Moslems who live and work in Europe
Some of them have their Moslems names changed
Names started with Mohamed are now George
Or John, James, and others of the sort
Should they be exposed by their companies
They are afraid of being treated differently
Or denied to scale up to the corporate ranks
Circumstances forced him to impose self-abuse
They are afraid of being lumped with terrorists
They want to feel a bit safe from stereotype
Europe is free without being free from prejudices
Imagine a Christian living in a Moslem country
Where life is still backward and quite primitive
Where hatred against other religions is so rife
What do you think this Christian will have to face
When Moslems in the free world are treated like this?
In many countries the Christians are already treated that way. I know a man who grew up in Russia and had to flee to Iran because he was a Christian, then later had to flee from Iran to the U.S. because Christians were no longer welcome in Iran. Even with that truth, it doesn't make it right for us to profile others. If I said I am not cautious, I would not be telling the truth, but there are many people here, in America, who were born as Americans (and perhaps that is even true of their parents) who happen to be Muslims. They are Americans first, and I think that is probably true of most who live here, but the fear that many have of one single Muslim having ties to terrorist groups, makes us cautious, now. "Once bitten, twice shy." It is the goal of the terrorists, to turn us against our own, so that they will, in turn, turn against us...a good inside strategy when you include the human nature factor. It is not a one sided problem, Abdi-Noor, and not all people of the planet are as wise or as accepting as you are. Excellent write...you got me standing on my soapbox here.
I think you got the picture wrong. True there will always be racism, but incredible as it sounds, and now I write about my island mainly, Muslins have only themselves to blame. They bring in drugs, they steal, they rape and they murder. There are many Muslins in prison that our Governemnt decided to send them packing home. In a country that gave them hospitality, the least one expects is they should live decently. That's when they'll get all respect they deserve. It is the same in England.
However to be fair, it is not only Muslins who break the law, there are those from the East and also local citizens involved.
What you are talking about is realistic,my friend.This is how the heartbeat of our world is beating at present.It saddens us all to face all this.But pray to the lord of Humanity to take this all away from our beautiful world.
Let not the choices of faith come between the wellbeing and happiness of all the people in the world.
