In Somalia many men were killed in the war so women were made single mothers who should take care of the orphans. So they carry the burden of generating income for the family. And worse still we have limited day care centers which the poor can not afford to send their children. So while the mother is away for work she worries of her children during her absence. In some families the elder child will take care of the younger siblings and sometimes they don't eat until the mother comes back from work. So the mother is working in a situation where she worries about here children's condition and security during the time she is away from the house. But all these worries and uncertainties shall die when she meets them in the evening and finds that no child is missing. Just imagine the horror this war has caused to the Somali women.
When the day starts breathing
And the birds begin twittering
I leap into clouds of foggy air
As I wave good bye to my children
What a burden to be a single mother
To be the sole bread winner of the family
Treking long distances to eke a living
I feel a pain running deep in my soul
But when I come back from work
The gates of joy fly open for me
I see all my children rushing to me
Round my waist they all converge
What a relief!
It is a problem the world over, but more so in poorer nations and it is such a shame that humanity has wasted Creator's resources on greed and power. My prayers are with you and your country Abdi Noor, and with this problem wherever it exists. Perhaps one day a new generation will see peace and hope...
