enjoy to be informal even if I have to deal with people from the advanced nations of Europe and America. This story has happened to a friend of mine who in Eighties used to study at Ohio State University in the United States of America. He thought he could spend time with a classmate with he befriended only a few days before visiting him at his house. But he did that without setting an appointment with his American friend. I think sometimes a friend deserves some respect even if he or she drops at a most inappropriate time of the day.

With a face beaming like a moon
He rushed to his friend's house

Like a bomb going off on his face
His friend asked "Why are you here?"

His mood make wide cracks of displeasure
As his psyche hit the peaks of sea rocks

He was a Somali studying in the States
His friend was an American in Columbus

He relied on the short-lived friendship
As he made a visit without a prior notice

Like a steam trapped inside the water
His mind still releases bubbbles of the episode

Cultures should identify each other first
Before friendly relationships actually
commence

So often we offend, and take offence. Life is too short for that! Acceptance and forgiveness is a human gift, yet one that comes from God.
Please show your friend acceptance and love; let it rub off on him. That is how we can grow...

Accept my stumbling words, and thank you for reminding me again of the importance of friendship. Fergus

It's not so much a cultural thing but personalities I fear. Some are open to everyone any time and others hide and protect. I don't think either are right or wrong. It is a lesson learned in life that when I meet someone new it is something I put on my list of first things to know as I also let others know. There are some people that I meet and instinctively feel they are safe people and others that until I know them better would feel uncomfortable if they just dropped by. Good write and wonderful subject to reflect on. Thank you for sharing this. Lady J

Excellent, Abdi-Noor, we seem to forget that. And when we need a friend, you wonder where they've gone...thought provoking, wise words; thank you!

(((HUGS))), love and prayer, Karla.

I think friendship - always deserves some respect.

Rudeness is never acceptable, Abdi-Noor. At least, not in my opinion. My heart aches for the hurt that your friend still feels.

Love,
susan

Abdi-Noor,

I agree with you my friend. We Americans are of rare breed. Some love to live for the convenience of it only but fortunately we aren't all alike. Your poem brought up a very important aspect of life and for the likes of me I'll never be able to figure out. I even see this happen many times within families where a relative drops in unannounced and receives only the cold shoulder. Bless You Always, Paul.
