I believe that there is one civilization in this world which is dubbed as "Western civilization" It is within this civilization where clashes are taking place between cultures and religions and not a clash taking place between two civilizations as written extensively by internationally renowned authors whom I so greatly respect. What is happening today is a resistance of a group or groups who feel threatened by the western civilization and not a civilization already ruling some part of the world clahing out with another civilization. At the university we are now taking a course on clashes of civilizations and this poem is based on the way I perceive the current clashes of the world. It is not the outcome of a research findings or any other study of academic interest.
To save the world from the greed of hegemonic expansion on one hand and Terrorism on the other using religion as a vehicle to reach material goals, I think we should come up with a strategy and subsequent intervention to make the world a safe place for mankind and one sure way to give hope to our children is to make cultures accept cultures and religions accommodate religions while poverty is being fought till it is eliminated
In this world of ours
We have only one civilization
One which is based on knowledge
Spreading its wings wide across
Touching all dimensions of existence
Changing life in unchangeable ways
Propelling its engine with a steam of modernization
Moving fast with an accelerating force
Expanding itself in a shrinking space
Reducing the world to a global village
Penetrating deeply into people´s lives
Shifting tons of words in a single click
Birthing values of a new cultural entity
Using democracy as a pillar of light
While its light shadows other lights
Making clash of cultures quite inevitable
Can we save the world?

A serious question about a grave problem. How a few can disrupt the life of many. How in the name of peace we let the assassins roam around our world.
Yes, there are a "western world" that exports goods and commodities to a disgruntled "third world" managed by corrupt clergy and military which respond with atrocities against their own people and foster terrorists too coward to take arm against their oppressors when they can do it in an open and peaceful society.
The "west" didn't went to the "middle-east" demanding churches to be build, the "middle-east" came uninvited to the "west" and demanded mosques and respect for barbaric sharia when they could had stay where they were, and save themselves the grief of Cultural Clashes.
Abdi Noor,I agree with most of what you have said,however there are much more that is divisive,because of the vast divide of ideas between liberals and conservatives. It is much more difficult when broken down to ultra-librals and ultra conservatives. Ant that's just american cultures,with even more variations of each,so that trying to come to conclusions of which way is best,is almost impossible.I haven't even scratched the surface. Our leaders are liars that can't be trusted. I wish I knew where to start,but though many of us truly want to save our planet, we are too split into too many factions to even know where to begin. I'm praying for a group of honest leaders to make itself known! In the meantime God bless us all who seek peace and hope!
