In a seminar we held today at the Smålands kulturparken in Vaxjo Sweden, Somali women have recommended the dire need to establish sound working relationship among the Somalis in Sweden while at the same time calling Somalis to make better adjustment in their new life. To save and rebuild Somalia, the Somali Diaspora is a force to reckon with. But first, they said, we must be a functional community, not groups scattered here and there who are counted as missing despite they exist in large numbers.
Only when we help ourselves in the Diaspora and function as one Somali community, they said, can we help our people back home, adding that we can expect respect only when respect others religions and cultures. Individual groups divided by clans cannot make a community, saying that such groups can only add fuel to the fire of clan hatred, disorientation and disintegration of Somalis both at home and abroad.

We are a community without a community
We are everywhere without being no
where

Too big we are in size and volume
But too small indeed to be visible

Within the abundance of space
We lack any space of our own

We are the whistle not the wind
We are the whisper not the word

We are stuck in sands of conflict
Our past is blocking us to proceed

We are a disintegrated people
Integration is our last hope
