in the center of the universe
with legs crossed
back straight
leaning into my spine
I wait just a moment
thinking deeply of me, first
feeling worn thin
my patience waning
anxiety reverberates
nails on chalkboards
and then night falls
darkness drips out of the sky
and settles lovingly around me
a candle flickers
a reminder to an ancient illumination
a battle long forgotten
another moment passes
I still wait
I begin to listen
eyes close on the envelope
light pushes against darkness
and soon the world speaks
a thousand tongues
fill me with sadness
trillions of tears fall
as if to fill an ocean
within and all around me
darkness fights with sadness
neither knowing of the other’s irony
until eventually the light extinguishes
and the candle burns brightly
