I over spend my time
in wasteful examination of my mind
Always looking for a cause to loss
reliving every conversation
every look, every smile, every touch,
every tear expressed between two people
All because I believed so much in love
And as I let my memory walk about
forgetting to bolster my fears with courage
I end every conversation with myself
in self deprecating thoughts
Collapsing in defeat of my inability
to let my anger spill out at you
You see, I believe so much in love
Oh how often I wished for
a little nuance from indifference
Or more so, a lifetime of kisses
But each step of recourse
left me staring wildly in a mirror
looking at no one else but me
Seeing myself through a haze of regrets
with tear soaked swollen eyes
all I saw was my ugliness
All I heard was an annoying thought
Am I worth knowing?
Retrospect is such a dangerous game
It can so easily lead to permanent mistakes
When all one wants is to believe in love
I questioned my intellect
My spelling, my typos, my grammar
My art…my beauty
After much time of sitting with no one but me
your wiliness for surprise
came to me as quickly as it left
I wonder now in the opposite of before
Is it my allure that brings you back?
Or a lure you like to use to remind me
I should always believe in love.

as we all know, love is a powerful force ... the motivations and intentions of how and why it can be attained makes a most intriguing introspective query and excellent poem ...
A postmodern retrospective moment that deals admirably with that most elusive yet always present state of being. A most excellent piece Sara. Go on! go that one step further...do a video reading.
P.S. You are beautiful inside and out and I would hug you if you were close by and tell you never to stop believing in love. It is real, it is constant, it is forever. It may not be in your life as a physical body but it is an aura that will surround you until you open your heart and let it in. I have looked at your picture of the little girl since I first started reading you and the picture of the little girl is the essence of the light in you the adults eyes. Now post more poems of this quality, openess and wonder and post more pictures of you and your smile to give hope to those of us who need hope.
