you were right
it does get easier

time is like an opportunity
to remember who sucked
when things pretended
to be right

and actually
now that I consider it
it wasn’t even you
who ever said
“time heals all wounds”

it’s more something
I hear you say to me
inside my head
when I ask myself
as if I were asking you
as if you were still here
“was it me
or was it you?”

which is usually proceeded by
a break down
of varying degrees
usually ending
in a proverbial bed of tears
of oh yeah
I said you said
"it gets easier
with time"

yeah…right

You are right - time is a healer! No doubt about this.
Nevertheless, whatever it was, it remains underneath the surface and will never disappear.
Well, that's life.
Have a wonderful Christmas

A nice work on the never ending memory of a relationship ended and yet the small phrases and thoughts still linger there as if though it will make things a bit better, not really huh?...nice expression of your thoughts...

enjoyed, Art Sun...

Sarcastic to the core. Nothing like a woman's scorn. I feel reborn.

though wounds heal, the memory endures and the residue of the pain can reopen the wound all over again ...

insightful and well written, Sara ...

I know, from first hand experience, when my first wife walked out of a 19 year marriage for a rich man and tried to take our son with her that I was caught betwixt a tornadoe and a hurricane.

It took six years of meditation and prayer to sort things out and find a sort of peace. The wounds healed, but the intense emotion from those wounds still lingers. To this day I still have trigger points that flare up.

If this is about you Sara, you are exposing a lot. A powerful write!

Your poem rings with truth, Sara. They say hindsight is 20/20. Sometimes when we're in the situation, we're too close to actually 'see'. Very well written.
Love and Happy Christmas wishes!

Time does heal all wounds. At least that's what I'm told as well.

It does seem that it is always the ones who don't care about how we are hurting, that we seem to bear the sting of loss about for the longest of times...perhaps it is that they never afforded us closure, simply walked away and went on with their life, never accepting any responsibility for the heartache they caused us. Perhaps it is that we are not good at dealing with rejection, and torture ourselves about it much longer than we should. We need to understand that if someone walks away from our love, that they were never worthy of it in the first place and that it is time for us to move on to someone who will appreciate all that we are...but often we don't. We feel abandoned and we struggle with what we wish to believe could have been, even though we have been shown that it never was destined to be. This is a sad and longing write, Sara, and I would love to say I have never lived this scenario, but unfortunately I have, which eventually caused me to ask myself at what point my love for him became an obsession, and why was I so unable to let go? At some point, I afforded myself the freedom to release myself from the pain and once done, I realized my life was much better without him. I forgave myself for my bit of bad judgment and I never looked back. I now wonder what I ever saw in him.
Take care,
Sherry

This captures the pain and hurt of the final days of most relationships, but it does so as Kimmy suggests with a touch of humour that lets the reader know you will be okay.
