I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Poem Artwork

In a brown box
decoupaged
with memories
both inside and out
I took what was left
of my heart
placed it carefully
into the near dark
It seemed to float
as if already in infinity
I closed my eyes
and the lid simultaneously
Feeling tears swelling up
as a flood against my cheeks
I muttered to myself
like I often do
Absently asking
and answering
my incessant questions.
Would this lovers gulag
be secure enough
to last indefinitely
To hold my heart
deep into the future
I don’t know
and can’t possibly
be sure
but I remember
opportunity
is always hiding
in the shadows
Waiting for
the right moment
to jump out at me

Poignant, claustrophobic feel to this, Sara, and yet, hope for the future: excellently expressed.

Although there are bittersweet and sad sentiments expressed within your verses, you have left the door of hope ajar. Thank you, Sara. Best wishes to you for the new year with love and peace,
