I always wrote too many letters;
you always answered just a few
It was all so Victorian like,
with a modern twist of love
that began beneath a set of black keys
Under there I found a voice
inside a garden
outlined in tap tap tap.
Soon words turned into flowers
delicate blossoms
of thoughts and dreams.
They bloomed and died
preserved between panes of glass
until their vibrant colors dried
But that letter “I”
kept tap tap tapping away
until it nearly wore itself off
And in a valiant escape path
it trajectoried
from desperate,
into a lonely trap.
Then you asked,
as if I hadn’t had enough,
let you, be you
and me, be me
and somewhere in the middle
maybe we’ll find oui.
I pressed the glass further
until the juices oozed and
crystallized
And color became
nothing because it was really
just implied.
I measured the distance
between yes and no
Being careful
not to miss each mark
lest I err, short
of the right sighs.
Whatever.
All these flowers
I found beneath the black keys
are just funky arrangements
on how not to sever
the thing that always drew us
together
Yes, “I” know,
I wore out your patience
along with the high and low keys
But there was that hackneyed trellis
where love liked to entwine.
And with a little luck
it even shined.
So thank you baby
Thank you for showing me
what love is like
when it's not confined.
This is such an awesome write. I love your use of words. Not a single precious syllable wasted. Love may not be perfect my friend but it is eternal. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
God bless you. Kathy
and me, be me
and somewhere in the middle
maybe we’ll find oui.
Quite powerful, Sara, and quite a music video.
Be always safe,
Karen
Beautifully penned - Paul (below) said it best - love may not be perfect, but it is eternal. Well done, and Happy Valentine's Day!
