Night Into Day

Spending the night by your side I watched you sleep
Occasionally wincing from a pain down deep
In agony you’d fling the covers away
Reaching through the air for something as your arms flayed
I gently brushed my hand across your forehead
Hoping you’d just drift back into the sleep of the dead
Willing your body with my thoughts so your muscles wouldn’t weep
Occasionally I’d hear your bones creak
As the night whispered of devotion
Knowing love is just an emotion
I helped you slooowwwwly get up
Being careful not to interrupt
The sun dragging its rays across your beautiful face
Knowing it was another day in the race
That today is not the day for life to expire
If only you just didn’t feel so tired

At least you didn't spend the night alone as is my curse it seems. But if I ever had the oportunity to keep a vigil over a beloved one I would want it to be as sweet as this.

OOh how sad and how touchingly deep. This is really good. I like how the topic is different, but it's real. Great job!

You almost, I say almost, got me depressed with this one. Thank the good Lord that I was thinking about drinking later.
