He knows that I know that he jumped the gun but we will never discuss it. His lack of patience is overshadowed by his brilliance and his aplomb commands my respect. Holding the big picture in the palm of one hand he delegates smaller tasks from the other hand with lightning speed expecting the same in return with each reply. Just the facts; he wants just the facts without emotion, without excuses, without supposition and I am skilled at finding and delivering such. He is never abusive in his requests or replies; he just expects excellence from himself and those who work for him. He's addicted to my lack of drama and the way that I am comfortable behind the scenes helping him look good not needing headliner attention. After all, he is the headliner; we both know that. It is a beautiful dance…one of which we both know will not be one hundred percent perfect. We expect a small margin of error but we're never willing to allow it to exist, and if it does come about, as in the case of his impatience, or my own humanness, we will pretend it never happened and just fix the problem. He is delighted and giddy as a child when I anticipate his next move before he makes it and will allow a slight smile to momentarily reveal his pleasure of the situation. The smile doesn't last long and he doesn't really want me to see it, but that is ok because we both know that I am not needy of his constant or drawn out approval for I approve of myself and derive pleasure from the fact that I have figured out the fascinating way his mind works. Not everyone can be an assistant to such a one as he but for me it is where I shine and excel.
You write as though you are there. I only encountered one CEO on a plane. He had a chef he had just hired to run his food operations and his executive assistant with him--a man. They were on their way to New York and the Waldorf-Astoria for a business meeting. Everything was being planned with precision. Very interesting to listen and watch.
