Never Changing Unavoidable Death
Easter Thoughts 4.4.15 © Sherry Bach
What is it that you live for?
What makes your life worth living?
Is it the birds…the cobalt blue backs of the mountain bluebird flitting around by the bird feeder in your backyard spreading beauty in color for your eyes to behold?
Is it the dog who loves you every time you come home no matter how long you've been away?
The cat who purrs when you pet her…every time?
Maybe it's the places you get to see on your travels…mountains, desserts, oceans, lakes?
Is it for the people? Do you live for the people?
Your kids perhaps, who you are so proud of?
Or friends and family who make you feel like you matter and love you just the way you are?
Is it service to your country?
A sense of belonging to a cause that fights for freedom?
Maybe it's the music?
Do you live for the music and the enjoyment you see on the faces of the people who listen, knowing you moved them in some emotional way?
Your work?
Is it working everyday that gives you something to hold onto? A worthy position that provides for life's comforts, a house, a car, food?
Could it be your health?
Is it your health that makes your life worth living? After all you say you still have it.
Is it love?
Love that works mysteriously in ways we don't understand? Love, that allows us to do things we would never otherwise do? Love that gives us the confidence to accomplish great things?
Surely it's love?
It has to be love but it's not love at all.
What motivation is there for living if not love?
What drives you?
I'll tell you…it's Death.
It is Death that keeps us running?
All the other things can change, be taken away, move on, pass away, or die before our very eyes, but not Death. Death can never be taken away from us or change.
One thing is certain…one day we shall all die.
Death will come knocking. It will show up when we least expect it, or right on time, but nonetheless, it will come.
It is Death that we live for.
It is Death.
The reason we breathe in and breathe out is Death.
Death motivates us to live.
Never changing, unavoidable Death.
You are absolutely right. We can never play it safe enough to avoid death. But, by playing it safe, we may miss out on the greatest joys in life.
Ron
This was a rather morbid write for you.
