What Would You Have Worn To My Funeral?

7.24.15 © Sherry Bach

What would you have worn to my funeral

If on Tuesday I would had died?

Would you have worn black as is customary?

Or would you have worn white?

White gives a sense a purity and peace

Black shows a respect most known

White reflects the sunshine brighter

Black invites the warmth home

Whatever color you would have worn

Would have been fine with me

You could have worn green or purple

Or a cool shirt in summer pink

I just hope you wouldn't have judged

Anyone there for what they wore

Life is too short to waste it away

You don't have time for that anymore

I didn't die on Tuesday

I'm alive, my life was spared

But I know it could be any moment

That death can be declared

My plea, my request, my offer

Is that you spend the time you're here

Loving and living wisely

And make a difference that won't quickly disappear

Something I never thought much about, often violating unwritten dress codes. But I'm sure it's something that some people fuss over, wanting to be seen as, "correct."

One thing is certain as dead is a doornail… The deceased does not care even if no one shows up for his or her funeral, regardless of what they wear or not.
