The Surrealist Ends an Affair (for hks, who "gets" it every time )
Declan D. Blunderbus
dresses quite badly and stinks
of drugstore cologne.
His appeal
lies
in his complete lack
of appeal
and my own masochistic tendency to suffer
idiots.
"It's all in your head,"
says my mother.
"It's all in your head,"
says the priest.
They are right — it goes without saying, but I say it
to reinforce the positive affirmation.
They are right, and I am
weary
of conversations
with grey squirrels and cross
stitching
the Last Supper
for the barren wall
above Tante Cecile's sideboard.
Exorcise Declan,
drab olive Declan
of the staid and lack
lustre ties;
Aqua
velva
lime clings to the skeins of burnt umber
I'm using for Jesus'
hair.
The squirrel lobs a rotted chestnut at my head,
no doubt to shut me up, but the mote in my eye
deflects it quite nicely.
It shows me (without using its tail)
the Us in Blunder
bus
and the path I must walk to Salvation.
Stealing one of your phrases "Holy Crap" and adding my own also
Damn! This was a feast Pat,
no shitting you, I could sit here
and read it over and over again
and still not have enough, and
I learned a few new things also!
Your mind continually amazes me!
All I can do is nod my head in
total agreement with Joseph!
The squirrel lobs a rotted chestnut at my head,
no doubt to shut me up, but the mote in my eye
deflects it quite nicely.
You are so unique!!! bravo!

Patricia, dear, I adore this poem from the first word to the last syllable, entranced by the title, and totally AMAZED at the stylistic dialectics, paradoxes, and transitions -- you are one of the BEST, you know that, right? It's all about you, partner, all about you!

A complicated work, to say the least.
Juxtapositions, transitions, comparisons.
Deep, taking some re-reading to decipther...
and don't know as I've done it 100% as yet.
This is the stuff classics are made of.
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
